Cordelia's school had a Zoom meeting yesterday for parents of seniors. We now have a long to-do list. I think Cordelia can manage most of it on her own; we'll only have to do the bits that require a credit card.

Pretty much everything graduation related has a deadline in October. It's a lot.

Scott and Cordelia will be going to pick up her school books today. It'll be a drive thru thing, and it will be a challenge because there's a small window for Cordelia to be able to get both her books and her choir music. Some kids have no overlap at all between their book pick up time and their music pick up time.

Cordelia is saying that, although she's taking two AP classes, she doesn't want to take the corresponding AP tests. She considers those too much pressure. I fail to comprehend that part as they're just tests. Tests don't usually worry her.

The school district assigned Cordelia to the last SAT date, the 27th of October. It's not clear how transportation for that will work. When I asked, they said buses from the middle schools. It occurred to me, after, that the K-8 down the street may be considered a middle school for this purpose, but that doesn't seem like a safe thing to assume. Cordelia and I have concluded that her walking to Skyline would make more sense than her walking to Clague to get a bus to Skyline. There's not much difference in the time and distance.

Cordelia is scheduled to take the SAT this weekend, an hour away from us. She had been saying that she'd prefer to go with the test at her school no matter how long that meant she'd have to wait, but she decided, after getting her date from the school, that she'd rather have the test done as soon as she can.

Of course, the SAT people keep emailing to remind us to check the listing of closed test sites. We are not to assume that any given site is open, however, just because it's not on the closed list. Better, they tell us, to check the website for the location. Whatever happens, they're absolutely not responsible.

I'm not convinced that random high school X will update its website front page to reflect a cancelled SAT, especially one cancelled less than twelve hours before the test.

Scott's request for Saturday as a vacation day has been rejected. This doesn't mean he'll end up scheduled for that day, but it's pretty likely. He'll have to call in sick in order to drive Cordelia to the test. He's hoping that they'll let him choose to work either Saturday or Sunday so that he can request Sunday.

Cordelia doesn't want to apply anywhere that requires essays or letters of recommendation. She doesn't feel like she knows any of her teachers for core subjects well enough that they'll remember who she is. Her choir teacher and the teacher she had for two business classes would both know her well enough (in her opinion) to write letters, but neither of them teach core subjects.

The University of Michigan wants both extensive essays and recommendations. Most of the essays want the writer to discuss how they belong to larger communities, and Cordelia only has choir to cover multiple essays. She feels that's too thin for multiple essays.

Kalamazoo College wants recommendations; Cordelia and I are still going back and forth on that one.

The other four schools just want transcripts and (if she has them) test scores. I'm hoping the ACT scores will come soon enough to be useful. We might get them this week or next, but it also might be longer. (Cordelia didn't take the writing test. We fought long and hard on the subject, and I lost.)
