Fic Announcement

I wrote twelve stories for We Die Like Fen 5. I'm putting the announcements behind cuts by fandom because that's a lot of announcements.

Title: Whose Eyes Show the Road
Fandom: Boku no Hero Academia
Rating: T
Length: 759 words
Characters/Pairings: Midoriya Izuku, Aizawa Shouta
Tags: Time Loop, Memory Loss, Trust, Ambiguous/Open Ending

Summary: "Sensei," Midoriya said, "I need you to listen carefully. We have eight minutes before this loop resets. I'll remember; you won't."

Shouta pinched the bridge of his nose then looked down at his empty cup. Eight minutes wasn't even long enough to make more coffee. "How many times?"

Title: Twilight Weaving Morning
Fandom: Boku no Hero Academia
Rating: T
Length: 3657 words (2 chapters)
Characters/Pairings: Past (and possibly future) Bakugou Katsuki/Uraraka Ochako
Tags: Past Relationship, Time Travel Fix-It, Tentative Trust, References to Violence, References to Apocalypse, Incomplete Intelligence, Uncertainty About Identity, Thought You Were Dead, Planning Criminal Activities, Ambiguous/Open Ending, Pining that Might Be Mutual

Notes: Can be read as a standalone, but I wrote it as a sequel to a story I wrote for a different recipient last year's WDLF, There Will Be Morning. I worked pretty hard at making it unnecessary to have read the previous story in order to understand this one. I've created a series now that authors have been revealed.

Summary: "Well, fuck," Bakugo Katsuki said. "You're supposed to be eighteen months old." Behind the words Ochako heard him saying You're supposed to be dead. I thought you were.

Ochako wondered if he'd heard the shadow of the same words behind what she'd said. "I suppose the back in time thing is an obvious Hail Mary route. Did you have a plan? At all?"

He gave her a glare that had some amusement in it, nothing a stranger would see, of course, but Ochako remembered. "I'm still doing recon. What? I do recon!" After a moment, he looked away. "I learned. Fucking it up got people killed."

Title: That Lures Us Home
Fandom: Harry Potter
Rating: G
Length: 1066 words
Characters/Pairings: Lee Jordan, George Weasley, Ron Weasley
Tags: Accidental Cat Acquisition, Cat Deliberately Adopts Humans, Grief/Mourning, References to Canonical Character Death, Getting On With Life, Post-Battle of Hogwarts, Fluff and Angst

Summary: Lee was the first on to feed the cat. "I just set my lunch down for a second!" he protested while he and Ron were rearranging inventory in the back. "I thought it was safe! What sort of cat eats pickled beets?"

Title: Movement in a Still Life
Fandom: MCU
Rating: G
Length: 1017 words
Characters/Pairings: Tony Stark/Stephen Strange (with Tony as Sir Not Appearing In This Fic)
Tags: Bodyswap, Time Loop, Introspection

Summary: The first thing Stephen did when he woke was to check whose body he was in this time. He kept hoping for a loop when he'd be himself, physically; he was pretty sure that was the key to ending the loop.

It just wasn't something he'd been able to force to happen. He suspected that whatever was going on had been designed to prevent it from happening.

Title: From the Made to the Maker
Fandom: Naruto
Rating: T
Length: 2003 words
Characters/Pairings: Hyuuga Hinata, Team 8
Tags: Introspection, Age Regression/De-Aging, Exploring Ruins, Mid-Time Skip, Dimension Travel

Summary: Hinata really wished she could understand Akamaru better. She was pretty sure he had ideas about their situation, and it would be really nice if he could talk to her without working through Kiba because Kiba was currently three, maybe four, years old.

So was Kurenai.

Shino looked older than the other two, at least graduation age, but he was having some sort of trouble with his kikaichu. He hadn't explained, just said he needed to hibernate until the eggs hatched.

Title: Voice of the Leaves that Die
Fandom: Naruto
Rating: T
Length: 866 words
Characters/Pairings: Haruno Sakura/Hyuuga Hanabi, Hyuuga Hinata
Tags: Major Character Death, Time Travel, Alternate Universe - Apocalypse, Grief/Mourning, Established Relationship, BAMF Haruno Sakura, Ambiguous/Open Ending, Hopeful Ending

Notes: This recipient opted in for character death as a story element. I kept checking back to be sure because it was something I did not want to be wrong about.

Summary: "I'm too clearly a Hyuuga," Hanabi said, stepping back from the emerging vortex. "I don't think we can hide it, and... You'll be better off without the attention. Freer to move."

Sakura bit back a snarl. She knew Hanabi had waited until the literal last minute to make the announcement so that Sakura wouldn't have time to argue. She counted down seconds in her head as she turned to fully face Hanabi.

Or, How Sakura Has No Intention of Doing This Alone

Title: The Giver in the Gold
Fandom: Phineas and Ferb
Rating: G
Length: 613 words
Characters/Pairings: Charlene Doofenshmirtz/Heinz Doofenshmirtz, Heinz Doofenshmirtz & Vanessa Doofenshmirtz
Tags: Parenthood, Babies, Parent-Child Relationship, Pre-Canon, Introspection, Character Study, Fluff and Angst

Notes: I wrote this when I got assigned myself for the second or third time (WDLF is not like other exchanges). I'd had the first couple of sentences for years but hadn't had the impetus to move forward.

Summary: Heinz had thought a lot about being a father before it happened. He didn't exactly have a good role model for fatherhood, and his good role model for motherhood was an ocelot.

Charlene would probably do better at the human socialization part of motherhood. Even if she didn't -- Well, Heinz's human mother had set the bar for that somewhere underground.

Title: Spinning Straw Into Gold
Fandom: Princess Tutu
Rating: T
Length: 859 words
Characters/Pairings: Ahiru | Duck/Fakir
Tags: Jusenkyo (Ranma 1/2), Fear of Being Corrupted by Power, Loyalty, Ambiguous/Open Ending, Angst, Post-Canon, Duck Is a Happy Duck, Fear of Apotheosis, Free Will, Introspection, Complicated Relationships, Not really a crossover

Notes: One of the tags on the request was for a Ranma 1/2 fusion, and that made me think about what those cursed springs would mean for Fakir and Duck.

Summary: Fakir set down the book he'd been reading. He wasn't sure that this traveler's tale about cursed springs in China would lead him and Duck to any sort of Happily Ever After. He also wasn't sure Duck wanted a different ending from the one they already had, the Happily For Now.

It would have to be her choice. She wasn't a character in a story or an inanimate object. She was a duck with strong opinions about human matters.

Title: Our Hearts Make Answer
Fandom: Star Wars Prequel Trilogy
Rating: T
Length: 1527 words
Characters/Pairings: Padme Amidala/Shmi Skywalker
Tags: Time Travel, Closed Time Loop, Alternate Universe - Soulmates, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence

Summary: Padme shouldn't have left the ship on Tatooine. She knew that. She went anyway because, if she stayed, she'd end up tearing herself to bits. She could be patient, biding her time, but this waiting was like heating an empty house, one that might never have people in it again, one with the doors and the windows open to the weather. It was all expenses taxing an empty purse.

Later, she wondered if her restlessness had somehow been Skywalker related. If she hadn't left the ship, she'd never have met Shmi.

Title: Adapted to Thrift
Fandom: Naruto/Young Justice
Rating: T
Length: 3276 words
Characters/Pairings: Inuzuka Hana, Wally West, The Haimaru Brothers
Tags: Crossover, Dimension Travel, Injured Character, Speed Force Shenanigans

Notes: The tag that prompted this was for a character who died in one canon waking up in a completely different canon.

Summary: Hana felt the explosion before she heard it and heard it before she smelled it. The trees around her shuddered. Branches and leaves whipped toward her, giving the impression that the energy came through the air rather than the earth.

She and the Haimaru Brothers threw themselves flat. Hana ended up with a few cuts and bruises. Her ninken were mostly protected by their fur.

Title: If Torn Means Mendable
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia/Harry Potter
Rating: T
Length: 1881 words
Characters/Pairings: Edmund Pevensie, Tom Riddle Jr.
Tags: Wilderness Survival, Telepathic Bond, Quests, Uneasy Allies, Magic Sword, Crossover, Mild Unresolved Sexual Tension

Summary: Edmund suspected that the command was meant for one person, for whoever claimed the sword first, and that the dream was trying to force the two of them into some sort of singular state that better suited its ends.

It was just their bad luck that neither of them had been clearly first or clearly better suited to the quest. Edmund suspected that the magic wanted a swordsman who could cast spells. Edmund and Tom, taken together, were a close enough match.

Maybe, if they hadn't reached out simultaneously, neither one of them would have been able to take the sword.

Title: The Food Your Hearts Shall Eat
Fandom: The Pretender/Weiss Kreuz
Rating: E
Length: 1762
Characters/Pairings: Brad Crawford/Miss Parker/Schuldig
Tags: BDSM, Femdom, Bondage, Temperature Play, Timeline What Timeline, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Complicated Relationships, No Strings Attached Say All Three Puppeteers

Notes: This story barely had a fig leaf of anonymity. The recipient knew immediately that I'd written it. I'm pretty sure anyone else who knows my writing did, too.

Summary: Brad would fuck without Schuldig there, but Brad lied about what he wanted and what he didn't. Schuldig was honest for both of them. He wanted to crawl for her, but he also wanted her to prove she was worth crawling for. He wanted her to be creative. He wanted her to lock the door and pretend that everything outside vanished.

Miss Parker didn't get that with Brad because Brad never forgot, not for a single second, and she never got that with anyone else because most of the people she played with had never heard of The Centre. The escape had to be mutual.
