Today was my last day of sleeping in before school starts tomorrow, so naturally I slept badly. I suspect that the green flecks on the cheesy bread we had with our dinner of pizza were oregano. Something certainly cranked up the reflux, and oregano is a prime culprit.

We had pizza last night because Cordelia had a friend spending the night. That particular friend is a very picky eater, and it's always a challenge to come up with meals that she'll actually eat. Cheese pizza and mac 'n' cheese are the go tos for when she visits.

The two girls have been having some trouble coming up with things they both want to do, but they're managing. Yesterday afternoon was helped along by the addition of two kids from down the street, and we watched Avatar: the Last Airbender with dinner and up until bedtime.

Right now, both girls are looking forward to going to the Saline Fair. Free admission for that starts at one, so that's when Scott's aiming to arrive. I don't think any of the exhibits will still be open, but the kids don't care about those. All they care about is the rides, and we expect those (as in years past) to be at a reduced price for the afternoon.

I have a couple of things I want to buy from Amazon (for Cordelia), and I'm looking for something to add to the order to make the $25 for free shipping (the difference between what I'm ordering and $25 is about what shipping would cost, so I'd rather find something to buy). Looking at my wishlist, there's nothing on it that I want enough to buy except some used stuff that wouldn't count toward the $25. It makes me wonder why I have some of this stuff on my wishlist.

Well, I know-- It's so that Scott's parents have some inoffensive and easy to find things to buy for me, come Christmas or my birthday. It's all stuff I wouldn't mind having. I just don't want it enough to spend my own money on it. There's stuff I want more, but Amazon doesn't carry it, and Scott's parents won't order from anywhere else. They're still uncomfortable with shopping online. Using Amazon is a major step for them.

Anybody read something recently that you just have to share? I read some romance and some mystery, but I'm very picky, and it's hard to predict what I'll like. I'm not at all big on urban fantasy; most of it repels me (I'm really not good with anything hardboiled, and excessive angst annoys me). These days, I read a lot of middle grade fantasy and SF. I edge in YA occasionally, but a lot of it doesn't work for me (and most of what does is borderline as to whether it should be called YA or middle grade).

I wrote about two hundred words yesterday. I'll be pleased if I can manage as much again today. With a little luck, that will get me through the set up part of the story and on to the heart of things.

I am finding myself tempted to work on other things-- I keep wanting to open up the documents containing fragments of other stories. I have so many things I've started and not finished. Some of them, I don't know how to finish. Some of them are likely to be really long, and I won't let myself get deep into any of them until Rheotaxis is done. Some of them, I just haven't spent the necessary time to get somewhere with them.

If I don't do Yuletide or if I finish my Yuletide story with time to spare before the holidays, I may put up a poll to see what people think I should work on next. Of course, only about three people will vote. But I've got the ability to do polls. I might as well use it.
