Since I'm sitting here and trying not to think about errands unaccomplished or how rotten I feel, I thought I'd do that song lyrics meme now that I actually have music on my laptop. I'm not going to ask for artist names on this because, in at least one case, the song was taped twenty some years ago at a filksing, and I have no idea who's singing. (Actually, I'm not entirely sure of the title on that one, but I have a fair guess, so I'm keeping it.) I'm also being a little arbitrary about what constitutes the first line of the song.

Anyway, these are the first lines of the first twenty songs to come up on random play on my iTunes, discarding one in Japanese (Much as I love "Absolute Destiny Apocalypse," I'm sticking with English). If you recognize the songs, comments with your guesses.

1) I know where I'm goin'

2) He's a real nowhere man --- "Nowhere Man"

3) It's so easy to dream of the days gone by

4) A young and headstrong lady was Madam Marie Curie --- Madam Curie's Hands

5) Cold wind on the harbor --- Giant

6) Sitting on the front porch on a summer afternoon

7) All the snow has turned to water

8) What a dream I had, pressed in organdy --- For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her

9) Steve walks warily down the street --- Another One Bites the Dust

10) Once I had a little dog

11) They unfolded your lives one by one

12) Even though I wasn't free when you fell in love with me

13) There's a young man that I know. His age is twenty-one.

14) Oh, the year was 1778 --- Barrett's Privateers

15) I've got beggars on my trail

16) You may talk about your lancers or the Irish fusiliers

17) Sons of the thief, sons of the saint

18) By a fountain back in Rome I fell in love with you

19) Don't get excited. Don't say a word.

20) Darling I can see the clouds around you

Tomorrow, I'll post a second line (maybe even more) of any of these that haven't been guessed.

Probably. I haven't listened to them in ages (mainly because I suspect next-listen may be last-listen given their age). I've also no longer got a stereo system since I hadn't used it worth commenting on in years (as in, before I left Illinois in '02, so moving it from IL to MA might've made sense, and from MA to MN made less sense, and from MN back to MI made no sense).

I'm kinda hoping Someone Else does the digitization of the tapes (and maybe even has the audiophile expertise to clean up the quality) so I can snag mp3s after the fact. :-)

As I said, I *have* some digitized filk for you (I got it copied to the disk!). It's got lots of convention recordings, so you will have fun listening, I hope.
