With that recommendation, I'll try the later books. I've got three audiobooks in my queue ahead of that, though, so it will be a while. I'm not sure I'll get through it if I try to read it. Listening to it seems more likely to work.

It is hard for me to evaluate the twist ending because I knew it going in. I read spoilers for most everything.
