I think it's the teenage cis, het, white guy equivalent of the standard literary novel about the cis, het, white guy having a midlife crisis. It fits the pattern of Important Literature but is about teens, therefore the kids will love it! Kind of like making high school freshmen read Romeo and Juliet.
