Well, I am no expert on haircutting scissors, but I haven't seen a split end in years, and I happily cut hair with whatever scissors are handy -- usually the kitchen scissors when I cut my kids' hair, and a pair designed to cut things like tin cans that happens to live near the bathroom where I usually cut my own hair. So my vote is that ordinary scissors work fine. But, like I said, I am no expert.
