Browsing is something I love about brick and mortar bookstores. Amazon's recommendations are utterly terrible, and I've never figured out a way to browse there beyond finding a book I like and running through the also boughts. That's why I keep using GoodReads. The recommendations aren't dreadfully good, but there are a lot of them, and the give me a place to start.
But I do most of my shopping online because I'm largely housebound. I even do my library browsing online (which means I'm stuck with looking at the very newest stuff and the most popular stuff, but it's better than nothing).
I wish for a GoodReads sort of thing for TV shows and movies (including non-English language TV shows and movies).
