Have you read Jackie Chan's autobiography? I recommend it. He's obviously deeply conflicted about his childhood training. He considers it to have been abusive, but he also thinks that people trained more kindly simply aren't as good. I don't recall the autobiography talking about his charity work, but I'm impressed by that, too.
