No school yesterday. They announced it Wednesday evening not long before I would have normally gone to bed. I had rather expected it because the map the city had of where the plows had been covered showed that most of the city hadn't had any snow removal or even sand or salt put down. They focused really heavily on downtown and about half a dozen of the major roads leading from there to the highways.
Cordelia actually got the news first because she'd had the district's Twitter open.
Scott had cancelled our Wednesday gaming as of Tuesday, just based on the weather predictions, and it's really a good thing he did. I'm not sure any of our friends would have been able to get out of our neighborhood to the big street.
I ended up sleeping well Wednesday night to Thursday morning, but I woke with a headache. That seems to be typical if I sleep long past my normal waking time, and I rather suspect it has something to do with caffeine withdrawal, low blood sugar, or both together.
During the morning, Cordelia kicked me out of the living room because I was cramping her style or somesuch.
Cordelia spent most of yesterday afternoon at the library. I think she was mostly avoiding the cleaning lady and the need to move from one part of the house to another in order to let her mop the floors. When Scott got home, he drove me downtown to meet Cordelia. She had a 5 p.m. appointment about three blocks from the library, so we got sandwiches at Which Wich. That's part of the way between, so it was the easiest place to stop. It's also usually Cordelia's preference for getting something quick downtown.
I ended up having to return a DVD that I'd very much wanted to watch because the school closing on Wednesday hit me about 35% into the movie. I never had a chance to go further because Cordelia was around and then the cleaning lady was here and the dratted thing couldn't be renewed.
I made a mistake with my sandwich at Which Wich. I asked for spinach on mine. The guy making the sandwiches informed that they were out and offered lettuce. I should have said no and just gone without greenery (all of the other options were worse than lettuce as far as my digestive system is concerned). Lettuce doesn't give me really bad reflux, but it does cause me trouble.
Lettuce, celery, and cucumber, all give me similar problems. It's not burning acid reflux, but it's definitely reflux. I think it might actually have to do with water content because the line for lettuce seems to be that stuff with completely flat leaves being much safer than iceberg or romaine. With romaine, I can be okay if I avoid getting any of the stalk.
I'm concerned about my laptop. Many internet interactions have slowed down massively since Scott switched my drive into Cordelia's old machine. I can operate on battery power, but every single email takes a noticeable length of time to open. Safari, if I accidentally start it, will crash immediately. It's not a program I normally use, but I tried it a few days ago after Firefox crashed three times in fifteen minutes (with full system restart between the second and third). I've gotten Firefox to run again, but it crawls even with just two tabs open.
Chrome is running fine, even with all of the things I've moved there because Firefox can't handle them any longer. I accessing the Yuletide IRC channel via Adium, and that's also not experiencing any delays that I've noticed.
I probably need to do some step by step deletion of Firefox stuff and then, if that doesn't help, remove it and reinstall. I just haven't wanted to spend the necessary time while Cordelia's been at home. Scott will be working twelve hours tomorrow, so he's not going to be in a position to troubleshoot or even to handhold until some time after Christmas (and maybe not then given his brother's family visiting). I have no idea what's going on with the email or Safari (and the Safari part really concerns me because I don't actually *use* Safari. For it to have problems implies something more systemic).
I need to do it, though, because right now I'm worrying about it. It's just that it's a Schrodinger's problem now in as much as I fear finding out that the potential fixes don't work. Right now, I can tell myself that there are things I can do about it.
ETA: Found the problem. It's what I should have checked first-- Scott didn't move the extra memory he had installed in my old laptop to the new one, so I've been trying to do the same things I normally would with only half the capacity. This won't take long to fix, but it's not something I can do myself because me and fine control... Not a thing that happens.
