Scott spent $600 on two pairs of glasses yesterday. That makes me really reluctant to get the glasses I ought to. I got my eyes checked months ago, and I haven't done anything with the prescription. I do kind of need reading glasses. I just don't want to deal with it or to spend the money.

I spent pretty much all of yesterday link finding for [community profile] metanews. I'm a little afraid that I'm setting up expectations that I won't live up to because I've been spending lots and lots of time on that the last couple of weeks and don't plan to do it every week. I have concluded that cutting the LJ reading list was a mistake because I'm finding links there to lots of Tumblr meta and podcasts. Most of the podcasts aren't really our sort of thing, but some of them are. I will have to do more link finding on Tuesday as there will be more stuff posted between now and then.

Scott went to part of the Smithee Awards last night. Those are something some friends of ours do every year that have to do with really, really bad movies. Scott really wanted to go, but he wasn't sure he should leave me. Cordelia pointed out that she would be here, however, and promised that she'd help with whatever I asked for, so Scott went. Cordelia did actually come whenever I called and do what I asked without complaining. I think it helped that I didn't need to ask for much.

Cordelia has started taking walks most afternoons. I don't know if she'll continue after school resumes, but I'm hoping so. She needs some form of exercise, and I can't really vacate the living room to let her do Just Dance right now.

Scott and I decided to pay the overdue fine and just return that DVD today. $1 is worth Scott not having to make still another trip out yesterday. We actually watched part of it and concluded that we didn't really care for it. Scott thought that, if we were going to pay a fine for it, we really ought to try it.

I gave up on another book last night. I think I read about a third of it. It was non-fiction and quite a train wreck. I just couldn't deal with knowing that everything was going to be disastrous. I think I'd hoped that the book would be at least kind of funny, and it wasn't. This week, I've finished two books and given up on two books.

My intention is to write today. I'm hoping not to let myself get distracted the way I did yesterday, especially since I probably won't write tomorrow.

If you haven't, you may want to go to https://www.zennioptical.com/ and check out their options. It gets spendy if you pick lots of "good" options like featherweight plastic and the top-line coatings, but I get my backup glasses there. A pair of glasses from Zenni would probably serve you better than nothing, and they should be well under $100, never mind $300.

My Dad got a bargain at CostCo--they don't have much in the way of choice on frames, but if you're not feeling too picky, it's a good deal.

Possibly useful: I've heard good things from people who have bought prescription glasses online from Zenni Optical and $39 glasses (two different but similar websites).

My current solution is to get expensive progressive lenses in frames from Lenscrafters (or whoever) for my almost-all-the-time wear, and then get reading glasses from Zenni. (My reading glasses are a prescription, a negative diopter, so I can't buy the cheap reading glasses at the store, which are all plus diopters.) Be aware that with Zenni, you become your own optician and have to learn a bit about how frames are sized and fitted.
