Okay. 2015 can just go away now. I'm done.
I just got off the phone with my mother. My step-father has just been diagnosed with a fast growing tumor in his eye. They don't know yet if it's malignant, but since it's growing fast and in such a delicate spot, they're going to have to treat it aggressively no matter what. He's going to have to go to New Orleans to see a specialist because the folks in Baton Rouge aren't up to dealing with it.
Mom's packing up and will start the drive back to Louisiana on Monday. I called to ask if she could come to my appointment Monday afternoon, and obviously, she can't. She really needs to be with her husband. She said that she wasn't sure that my step-father wanted her to tell anyone, but she felt she needed to explain to me why she couldn't be there for me.
Mom said she's going to be taking a really hard look at my brother when she sees him tomorrow to say goodbye. He and Mom are the only ones in that part of the family who haven't had some sort of major health crisis this year.
Three of us in under six months.

Hope they get the tumor safely out of your step-father's eye, and that it's not malignant. Your poor mother, your poor family!

This seems to be a rough year all around, but my poor, poor mother... I can't even imagine.
