I've been working on trying different books from my to-be-read pile. I'm not so much focusing on finishing them as on trying each one so that I can decide whether or not it's worth keeping. I suspect that at least half of the books are things I won't want to read or won't be able to read. I'm intending some degree of ruthlessness as I've got at least two hundred books waiting to be read (and probably much more than that).
I'm not going to log the books I decide not to read, not unless I've read about 25% or otherwise have something significant to say. That means, for example, that I won't mention the romances that don't catch my attention. I can usually tell that inside a chapter.
The books I do want to read are going to be in several categories. Those that I think I can read rapidly will probably go to the front of the queue. Those that I really want to read but am not sure I can will get shunted back-- Trying a book and failing to manage it tends to remove the possibility of reading it in the future. It doesn't always, but most of the time, it does.
