Delia went to Girl Scout camp. Cherydactyl and I dropped the girls off on Wednesday afternoon. Up until the point we got in the car, Delia was insisting that she didn't want to go, that she wanted to stay home with me. She was very quiet in the car on the way there.
The check in process was fairly simple. At the first stop, the camp nurse did a lice check and took Delia's temperature. All was well with that, so we went on to the parking lot near the cabins. We were hoping to help the girls set up their beds, but the counselor told us that they weren't sure where the girls would be sleeping yet, so we had to just put everything down in a temporary location. Delia started crying as soon as it was time for me to leave. The counselor got her working on a craft project, and by the time we got back to the car, Delia was absorbed in what she was doing.
Naturally, it rained starting right when we dropped the girls off. There were thunderstorms both nights (Delia is terrified of thunder. She usually climbs into bed with me when there's thunder). Both nights, I woke up to the sound of thunder and wondered how the girl was doing. Most of her fears about going to camp centered on night time.
On Friday, Cherydactyl and I went to pick up the girls. Delia wasn't hugely enthusiastic to see me (I took that as a good sign). She admitted to having had fun. We checked to make sure the crucial things were in Delia's suitcase, and all three stuffed animals were there. I figured anything else was replaceable.
On the way back, we stopped at a Dairy Queen. Delia ate about half of her ice cream sundae. She and Cherydactyl's daughter sang camp songs most of the way home.
Of course, when Scott asked Delia what the best part of camp was, she said that it was coming home.
Scott bought Delia the promised large stuffed panda. She's been carrying it around everywhere that we'll allow for the last three days. She was annoyed with us when we wouldn't let her take it with her to the cookout on Saturday or to Scott's parents' on Sunday. She argued that there was room in the car, but we held firm.
