Years ago, we got rid of an ancient freezer of uncertain workingness by offering it on Craigslist to anybody who would haul it away. It was either free or crazy-cheap. I warned people that it was heavy. It got a lot of responses -- I was surprised by how many people were interested in a free freezer that might not even work. Some guy showed up with a friend and a dolly and took it away.
I've mostly stopped using Craigslist because it is so much easier and safer to just drop things off at the thrift shop. But for a heavy item I'd definitely consider doing that again.
