Pertussis varies a lot. My high schooler had it in June, with such a mild cough that nobody thought it was pertussis, so everybody was very surprised when he tested positive. His cough vanished pretty quickly once he was on antibiotics. The standard of care was that they put the whole family on antibiotics too, so that we wouldn't catch or spread it. So it might still be worth having Scott tested.
