I strongly suspect that the culprit in my IBS flare is a change in brand of sandwich crackers. We usually get the store brand, but they've been out the last two weeks, so Scott bought the only other brand.

Turns out that those have peanut oil in the filling. I haven't previously correlated peanuts with IBS issues, but I avoid them because they make my mouth itch. In this case, it's possible that the cracker helped shield my mouth or that the amount wasn't enough to set off the itching. I know from experience that very small amounts of things I'm sensitive to can set off the IBS (takes considerably less than a single raspberry, for instance).

I don't know, though. I'm still having issues, and the last time I ate one of those was Friday. Either my body's taking a long time to recover or something else is going on. I don't think I've got any sort of bug because I don't have other symptoms.

Normally, I expect that cutting back to salted potatoes and saltines would settle things in less than 48 hours, so this is weird. Then again, I usually remember to read the ingredients before I eat things.

Right now, I'm mainly having major issues during a short window in the mornings, only about 2 hours, but I feel like I still need to be very cautious about how I eat in case my body isn't ready for a challenge.

I think I also gave myself some trouble by not getting necessary amounts of salt on Saturday. I remedied that yesterday and today.

My hands are feeling weird. I think it's because I've been trying to read books on paper. If that's the case, I need to work out how much time I can safely spend per day with a book and how much that depends on the weight of the book (I'm mostly reading things <130 pages).

Things don't hurt, and they're not numb. They're just in a weird space that has some sensation of both simultaneously without crossing the borders to be fully either. Putting tiger balm on the affected areas helps some, but I think that it mainly helps by giving me a different sensation to focus on. It's the backs of my hands from a little below the bases of my fingers to a bit past the wrists.

Wearing my thumb splints makes things feel worse, so that's not a solution, but I still also need the dratted splints for my thumbs. The splints don't help with minute to minute stuff, but they provide me with some protection against popping the joint by brushing my hand against my leg or against moving my thumb too far out and popping the joint that way.

Things meant more specifically for the bad joint might be better for the weirdness, but they're really hard to put on and leave me at a higher level of constant pain than the splints I normally use do. The problem is that all of the 'support' is pressure, and that joint screams under that level of pressure. I can't even use the palm of my hand to lever myself up from sitting on the couch because that pressure is agonizing.
