Hm. What about marking little pieces of masking tape with the names of the days of the week. Then you could stick tape to a cabinet or wall when they are not in use, or to a container when it goes into the fridge, and move the bit of tape back to the wall for re-use when the container is emptied. Though I think the hard parts with that would be (1) getting people to do it, (2) noticing tape to take it off before the container goes into the dishwasher, and (3) I'm still not sure that that would work with your hands.
