Christmas turned out to be calmer than I expected. Scott's sister, her four (and three quarters!) year old son and her mother-in-law all came down with different illnesses the day before Christmas Eve, and Suzanne gave us notice that it might not be safe to take Delia over there. She didn't say "don't come;" she just let us know what was going on so that we could decide.

New Year's Eve was crazy. We had six people over, the most our dishes can accommodate (we have eight place settings). Scott had to buy two extra chairs because we'd gotten rid of our old ones (which had an unpleasant tendency to break while people were sitting on them). It's a little frustrating being constrained by dishes and space and the like because part of me would like to invite all of my friends (and Scott's) to this sort of gathering.
