On July 4th, Scott and I had a long talk with Delia about her room and her bed. She told us that her bed scares her and that her stuffed animals scare her. We moved the animals to a closet. I'm sure she'll end up pulling them out to play with, but she was quite enthusiastic about moving them. After that, she told us that 'the girl in the room and the baby mouse in the room' also scared her. We have no idea what she means by either, and she didn't really explain. Instead, she responded by answering yes to questions like, 'Is the baby mouse's name Cedric?' (Scott puzzles me sometimes...)

She'd napped on that afternoon, so we had a dreadful time getting her to sleep. We finally had to just put her down and let her cry because we needed to get ready for bed ourselves. She cried for about 15 minutes (which seemed a lot longer). I felt dreadful about putting her into her bed when she says that her bed scares her, but I'm really not sure what to do about that, especially since I'm not certain that it's the bed that's the problem.

I'd have been more concerned about Delia while she was crying if she hadn't kept saying, 'I want to snuggle in Mama and Daddy's bed! I want to snuggle on Mama's loveseat!' She didn't mention anything wrong apart from her not getting exactly what she wanted. I think we've given her some mixed messages by being willing to let her snuggle with us until she falls asleep most days. It's just that there's a huge difference between doing that for 10-30 minutes and doing it for 3 hours (especially when she keeps changing her mind about where she wants to be and bouncing up and down in an effort to stay awake longer).

We'd gone out to dinner that evening. A couple of our friends stayed with Delia so that we could celebrate a belated Valentines Day. Scott and I were out for a little more than two hours. Not having Delia with us felt very odd. Not in a bad way, really, but still odd. Our original plan had been to try a Chinese buffet that we've heard good things about, but they were closed on the 4th, so we went to Red Lobster. We got seated immediately because the restaurant wasn't more than half full.

Now, we just have to manage to go out for Scott's birthday, my birthday and our anniversary, and we'll be caught up.
