At the moment, Delia and I are in a weird Twilight Zone where Elmo in Grouchland is scarier than Sky High. I bought Elmo in Grouchland for Delia a year or so ago, and she liked it then, but it fell out of favor badly enough that we hadn't watched it for months. As far as Delia is concerned, she's never seen it before because she can't remember ever watching it.

Today, I pulled it off the shelf and put it in. Delia protested several times that it was too scary, that she wanted Elmo to go back to his 'usual place,' but I kept it going because she often protests about small bits of movies being too scary and then is fine. Still, about ten minutes from the end of the movie, she burst into tears. I coaxed her through the rest of it because I wanted her to see that everything would come out fine. She did like the ending.

Then she asked me to put in Sky High for comfort viewing. I bought that used just a couple of months ago because I wanted it. I watched it once with Delia around, keeping a careful eye on her in case she got scared. She didn't. She insisted on watching it again and again and again. She even jumped on her father a couple of times, declaring that she was Royal Pain. I'm not sure why she picked Royal Pain. I guess the other female characters didn't make as strong an impression. Or maybe she really likes the idea of being able to turn adults into babies just because she wants to...

ETA: Now Delia says she likes the hero's parents best.
