Last night a local friend came over and helped with de-cluttering the living room. We had a paper bag full of paper recycling, a trash bag of non-recyclable garbage and two paper bags of toys and such to donate (that last without touching things Delia actually plays with). The friend in question was very brave-- She even dusted on top of the entertainment center (which hasn't been done in 2-4 years) and pulled out Delia's toy shelf to sweep behind it.

I'm now eying the dining room, kitchen and basement. The kitchen largely needs the dishes done and some food storage containers put away (I baked yesterday). The dining room is bad enough that it's hard to walk in there (that's where the furniture displaced by the Christmas tree went). I think that cleaning in there won't take too long, but it will be hard because it will require actually getting rid of big things. The basement...

The basement scares me because so much needs to be done. The Friday afternoon deadline makes it harder. We have to get it to the point that my brother-in-law and his wife can sleep down there, get to the half bath down there and not trip over boxes, bags, scattered toys and such. I'd like to dust down there, but it's not going to happen this time. It would take hours, and we don't have time for the dust to settle before the relatives arrive.

I'm especially concerned about the stuff upstairs because I'm thinking that I may have to have Scott's parents over Friday afternoon/evening. Scott thinks he's going to have to work late, and I don't want to be here alone with Delia while trying to deal with all the last minute stuff that comes up when guests arrive. After the brother-in-law and his family drive 5-6 hours to get here, I don't want to ask them to run to the store for toilet paper or for something to cook for dinner (and we've already had pizza once this week. I'm reluctant to do it again. Plus, my sister-in-law is lactose intolerant. Pizza seems a bad idea for her).

I baked cookies last night for the pre-school cookie exchange and then realized that I can't use them. The pre-school is adamantly nut-free (for good reason), and the chocolate I used isn't sufficiently so. I'm debating taking them anyway since the exchange will take place outside the nut-free zone. I can just warn people that I can't guarantee the safety of the chocolate and ask them to avoid those cookies if they have concerns.

Anyway, is anybody local free after 3:30 today (into the evening) or after 1:00 (into the evening) tomorrow and willing to help me clean? I'll feed you dinner if you want. Or cookies. Or something. Scott will be around to help tonight but can't be certain about tomorrow due to work schedule uncertainties.

Scott is still sick with a virus induced cough. It's not clear whether he's contagious or not, but it seems to be the same cold he's had since October, the same crud that's been going around our circle of friends during the last couple of months.

I can't resist this meme.

Stolen from several different people: If you had me under your command and could make me write anything-- fanfic or original fic, regardless of whether or not I know the fandom or if anybody even writes fic in that fandom and no matter how crack-addled it might be, what would you love to see me write?

[p.s.] I'm not actually going to write any of these (unless something
really strikes me), but I am curious. [/p.s.]
