Jan. 30th, 2011 09:11 pmWednesday evening, Scott's Babylon 5 game met. It usually meets every other week, but Scott skipped a couple of sessions due to some logistical complications. This session, for the first time, I joined the game. For years, I've been in charge of making sure Cordelia didn't disrupt things and got to bed on time. It's been hard because I miss role playing. I really haven't had a chance to do it since Cordelia arrived (There were a couple of sessions of Scott's GURPS Traveller game when Cordelia was a newborn, and I tried to start an Amber game at one point. That's it).
Being in charge of Cordelia while the game was going on was not something I looked forward to. I found it pretty stressful, flying solo, and I was more than a little jealous of the people getting to play. I didn't tell Scott any of this because I didn't want to spoil his one bit of social, having fun time. One night, every other week, isn't that big a deal.
Due to circumstances I'm not going to go into, I ended up telling Scott a few weeks ago how I felt about game nights. His solution was to have me make up a character. He's of the opinion that we can make it work. This last Wednesday seems to bear him out-- We'd originally planned to hire a mother's helper for the evening, somebody to make sure Cordelia got her evening snack and got ready for bed and everything. Cordelia objected to the plan. She didn't want a stranger involved in her evening routine. She said she could get herself ready for bed. She did, too. I still had to tuck her in and go in at nine to turn out her light and turn on her CD, but she did most of it herself.
I'm playing a ranger who's from an alternate time line. She ended up jumping around in time after a stabilizer accident while she was helping steal Babylon 4 and ended up settling in this version of herself. (All the details are fuzzy because Scott's the only one who really knows how it works.) She recognizes the player characters as people she's worked with for years. They, of course, don't know her but are doing the cooperate because we're all player characters dance. Hopefully the next session or three will settle things so that she's actually useful to the group and fits in.
I couldn't stop grinning during the game session, even when my character was talking about serious matters (her timeline's version of the Shadow War and planets being destroyed). I hope this all works out well.
