Dec. 23rd, 2011

I got nothing done yesterday, in spite of my plans. I was preparing to lie down for a brief nap at about 1:00 when the doorbell rang. My friend, M., was there, asking me to take care of her three year old daughter. Her older daughter was on the same field trip as Delia (they're in the same class), a trip to an ice rink for all the third, fourth and fifth graders, and had fallen and hurt herself badly. I took the three year old, of course. I can't imagine doing otherwise. I got her settled with Sesame Street on TV.

Then our cleaning lady arrived an hour early, at 1:30. I felt a little bad that she had to work around the preschooler, but she managed fine.

It turned out that M.'s older daughter had a serious break in her leg. The words M. used were 'long spiral fracture.' We kept the three year old until about 7:30. She and Delia played. They get along pretty well most of the time. I am glad, though, that M. found somewhere else for her six year old to go. I'd have taken him with no complaint, but he's high energy and not likely to be interested in what the girls were doing. Keeping him occupied would have been a challenge.

Today, I cubed cheese. I'll make the cheese spread on Christmas. Cubing the cheese is the time consuming part of the process. I wrapped Scott's presents from Delia (she declined to help. Next year, I'm going to insist). Then I made bacon wrapped dates. I made about sixty of those, in two batches. None of them burned this year, so I count that as a win.

I still have to make porridge. I can do that tomorrow if I have to, but I'd like to do it today.

I don't know if I'll get to Sit and Be Fit today. Delia has stuff all over the living room and is currently watching a movie. I need to move all her stuff and take over the TV. I didn't do Sit and Be Fit yesterday. I was using the TV to keep the three year old happy, and anyway, the cleaning lady was working in the living room while I would have been doing it. I may try a little yoga. I've culled a set of exercises from Peggy Cappy's Yoga for the Rest of Us DVDs. They don't take very long, and I might be able to get Delia to do them with me. (She tried Sit and Be Fit twice and found it tedious.) Of course, my knees are yelling at me, and some of the yoga postures make that worse. I don't know.
