There seem to be more girls on Delia's soccer team every time I turn around. I think there were eleven girls at practice this week. That's enough for the kids to get some rest during the games. It does mean that there aren't enough team t-shirts to go around. Last week, Scott had to rush home and rummage in Delia's dresser to find a shirt for one new girl. The team shirts are yellow, and he found an orange tie dye that was okay for one game. I need to go through Delia's dresser to see if I can find anything actually yellow.

Scott is taking his offer to assistant coach quite seriously. He has a lot of ideas for the team. I'm a little afraid he's running over the two high school kids who're the official coaches. Giving the girls the best preparation for their games is really important to him, and he's spending time trying to come up with drills and such. It's a pity his work schedule wouldn't let him be the actual coach.

Last night was Delia's school's annual open house. We went and wandered from classroom to classroom. My goal was to see Delia's classroom and to see the rooms she might be in next year. Delia wanted to visit just about every classroom. We met one of the fourth grade teachers. The other teaches a fourth/fifth split class and was busy with a meeting about fifth grade camp. I've met him in the past, but I don't think Scott ever has.

The parents of current third and fourth graders are speculating and worrying about how the classes will be divided next year. Right now, there about about forty third graders. Several of those will move away as their parents graduate or move on to different places for further study (one boy will be going to India for two years so that his mother can do research there). That will leave not quite enough kids to justify two classes of fourth graders but still too many for one class (thirty seems to be the practical upper limit for the school's resources. That's how many laptops are available for classroom use (shared by several classes, of course), and that's how many can be squeezed into the art room or the music room). There are currently about thirty fourth graders. They could all be put into one class for fifth grade, but it may make more sense to do a fourth/fifth split again next year. I'm actually hoping for it because it would mean manageable class sizes. I don't have much preference as to whether Delia's in an all fourth grade class or in a split. I think she'll learn either way.
