Saturday, we took Cordelia to Target. She had about thirty dollars in gift cards to spend, most of it left from Christmas but some of it from her birthday. We also wanted to buy her a new bathing suit because she'd outgrown her old ones. Scott dropped me and Cordelia at Target while he went to get his hair cut.

Cordelia picked out a hat almost immediately. It looks great on her, and she's been wearing it most of the time since she bought it. After that, she tried on six bathing suits, including two two piece suits. Two were instant noes. The remaining four took some consideration. She ended up with a one piece with black and white stripes.

Cordelia and I wandered the store a bit. She didn't find any books or movies that appealed to her. I wasn't optimistic that she'd find anything when she started looking at toys. She's mostly outgrown toys, and the selection wasn't that broad. She found a bunch of dolls that appealed to her, but she kept walking away from them because she wasn't sure she'd actually play with a doll if she bought one. She wasn't finding anything else, however, and finally decided to go for it. The doll she selected is black and relatively tall.

As we were heading toward check out, Scott and Cordelia spotted a small panda pillow pet. Cordelia already has a full sized panda pillow pet. She kind of collects stuffed pandas. This one wasn't very expensive, and she decided to get it, too. She ended up spending $9.17 of her own money on top of the gift cards.

After leaving Target, we stopped for a late lunch at Applebee's. Scott and I ordered salads. Cordelia ordered fish and chips with mashed potatoes and broccoli instead of fries. When our food arrived, Cordelia took one look at her meal and proclaimed that she doesn't like fish. She ate most of the broccoli then traded her plate for Scott's. Scott and I shared the fish.

Then we went grocery shopping. We managed to stick pretty close to the list which is unusual when all three of us go. Usually when all three of us go, Cordelia and I see things we know we'll eat but that it never occurred to us to put on the list. That's when we're likely to try new brands of cereal or different frozen meals or an obscure flavor of ice cream. The time before this, when we went shopping, my impulse buy was some liver sausage, something I enjoy occasionally but would never think to put on the list.

Scott and I ate leftover salad for dinner while Cordelia had soup. After dinner, Cordelia agitated for us to go out and get smoothies. There's a place downtown that she and Scott like for that. We went, bought smoothies and walked around a little. There was a block of Washington that was blocked off and had a stage set up. There'd been some kind of small festival there all day. We headed for the car when it started to rain. Unfortunately for us, we got to our car while a large group of people were leaving the parking structure. The Prairie Home Companion had been taping at Hill Auditorium which is about three blocks away from the structure, and it ended at eight. We'd timed things perfectly to be trying to leave as those people were also leaving.

Today was a more laid back day. I did laundry, and Scott and I changed our sheets. We did our usual trip to the library (I had a lot of holds come in all at once. I hope I can manage to read them all) and then got bubble tea.

At 3:45, Cordelia's team had a soccer game. It was chilly and windy. I was in a t-shirt and shorts and was definitely under-dressed for the weather. It wasn't so bad when the sun came out, but mostly the sun was hidden. Cordelia's team lost the game, but the girls seemed to enjoy themselves. Cordelia did complain that one of the girls on the other team shoved her, knocking her over.

I called my mother during the first part of the game. She'd actually called on my birthday (while we were out at dinner), and I wanted to return her call. I was surprised that she called because usually she forgets. She even called for Cordelia's birthday this year. That's unheard of. (My sister, on hearing this, was kind of jealous. Mom has never called on her son's birthday.) Some day, Cordelia's going to ask me why Grandma never sends her birthday presents or Christmas presents. I'm not sure what I'll tell her.

I managed to write about a hundred words today. This story is going to be like pulling teeth. A friend suggested something that might help, and I'm going to try that. With luck, that will let me eke out the 1000 words I need.
