Jun. 7th, 2013 06:55 pmYesterday, Cordelia's school had its annual 5K fun run. It's what Cross Country Kids has been leading up to all year. Participating in the 5K isn't required for doing Cross Country Kids nor is the reverse required. It's just the way that the organizers intend things to go. They had the course set up around the school with parents stationed to give the kids lap markers.
I'd meant to volunteer, but I didn't get the form in on time (Cordelia and I both forgot. I filled out the form but never got it into Cordelia's school folder). I showed up anyway, figuring that there'd likely be something I could do. I ended up watching over the snack table. Other volunteers had cut up five watermelons, dozens of oranges and lots of bananas. There were dixie cups half filled with grapes, too. My job was to make sure the kids didn't start throwing fruit around or otherwise do things with it that they shouldn't. I did that mainly just by being there. Almost all the fruit got eaten. Mainly what was left after was bananas.
Cordelia completed the course. She wasn't expecting that she would. She said it was both hard and easier than she expected. All the kids who completed the course got a medal and a pair of sunglasses.
Cordelia was cranky when I was finally ready to leave. She was having a lot of fun with all the other kids, and they were getting ready to start a game of soccer when I showed up to say it was time to go.
Scott went to see the local production of Chess last night. We know a couple of people in the chorus, and it's one of Scott's favorite musicals. He enjoyed this production quite a bit, judging by what he said about it.
Nobody was selling bagels at school this morning. Cordelia and I were both surprised by that. I think that the fourth grade teacher simply didn't want to be bothered with organizing it when she's not accustomed to doing it and that the fifth grade teacher figured that it wasn't his job any more.
