Aug. 3rd, 2013 01:06 amSo I never wrote about Wednesday's softball game. It rained through the whole game. Scott used the two big umbrellas he bought to keep the rain off us. They sort of did the job, but they're really meant for sun, so they leaked some. Also, the wind blew rain in underneath the umbrellas. It wasn't coming down hard enough for the field to get muddy. The girls weren't happy with the weather, but they managed. Somebody'd brought a towel that they draped over the bats in an effort to keep the handles dry.
Our niece stayed through the softball game. Her mother was ready to come get her at three, but our niece wanted to stay longer and said she didn't mind going to the game. I think she was bored, in spite of having a couple of Archie comics to read. After the game, we went home just long enough for Cordelia to change then drove north to meet Scott's sister halfway and do the handoff at a McDonald's. The place has a play structure that, in years past, has been a big draw for the kids, but this time they weren't really interested. We all bought ice cream treats while we waited for Scott's sister.
Right at the moment, I'm fighting insomnia. Sleep simply wasn't going to come, so I gave up and got up for a while. I think part of it is that I'm fretting over all the uncertainties involved in this trip with my sister. I have no idea what this house she's rented is like or what amenities it does or doesn't have. I also have no idea when she'll arrive tomorrow. It really depends on where she and her son stopped to spend the night. She was hoping to make Cincinnati, but she wasn't sure they would. Traveling solo with a six year old is stressful at the best of times.
