Today is my mother's birthday (and her wedding anniversary. She says that that wasn't planned. It was simply the first Saturday that the space for the wedding was available). Scott suggested sending her a card. We don't generally do that for my family, partly because Scott doesn't think of it (and he's the one who makes the cards) and partly because nobody in my family sends cards. This time, Scott used a picture of Cordelia from the August photo shoot. It'll get there late, but I suspect my mother will appreciate it. She doesn't have many pictures of Cordelia. We keep meaning to send her (and everyone else) school pictures, but we never get our act together to do it.

I think it's colder outside this morning than it was yesterday. It's supposed to get down to -22 F with the wind chill, but it's not there yet. I bundled up extra well for walking Cordelia to school because I showered this morning. I was only going to be outside for five minutes, but wet hair is a bad idea in this weather. I wore a hat under my hood, and between that and the scarf and coat, all of my hair was covered.

I have no idea what we're going to have for dinner tonight. I forgot to start anything thawing until last night, and the chicken we've got is some of those chicken breasts that come stacked together in a bag. It's going to take days and days for those to thaw enough to do anything with them. We have a package of potstickers I can cook up if we're desperate, and there'd probably be enough left to feed Scott and Cordelia tomorrow. They're both going to need to eat early, too early for me to do much cooking. Cordelia has indoor soccer practice at six, and Scott has a meeting for Science Olympiad at seven (if he's careful, he can manage both the meeting and getting Cordelia to and from practice).

I'm still doing HabitRPG. I'm level 5, but I'm not doing much of anything with the game aspects of it, but I do enjoy checking things off my list. There are a few things I'd like to make dailies but that I know I won't do daily. I'm working on them, though. Maybe I'll get to the point where I can make some of them dailies.

I have baked a cake from an old mix that we had lying around. I'm not sure how old the mix was, but it didn't have an expiration date on it, and it looks and smells fine. Now I have to decide how to frost it. It's a lemon cake. We've got two frosting mixes, both chocolate, and a couple of jars of white, unflavored frosting (somewhere in the pantry cupboards there are a few packets of flavor to mix into the white stuff. I think they're uniformly vile, but Scott and Cordelia like them). I don't like either of those options much. I found a recipe for lemon frosting on AllRecipes, and I've got the ingredients for it. I just have to decide to do it and wash the mixing bowl and get on with it.

I was hoping to bake brownies, but I discovered that what I thought was a brownie mix was actually a mix for chocolate muffins (Cordelia used to eat them for breakfast. I'd make twelve at a time and freeze six to keep for the following week).

I ended up making the lemon frosting. It's pretty tasty, and I don't usually like frosting. It was really easy to make. The hardest part was measuring out the powdered sugar. I think I'm glad I had time to let the butter soften, though. It would have been hard to mix the butter in if it had been cold.

When I see my primary care doctor on Monday, I'm going to ask to have my thyroid checked. I'm not sure that 50 mcg is the right dose. I've been having what I can only call cold flashes. They're not out and out chills. I don't shiver. I just feel utterly cold, and my skin goes all over goose flesh. It happens instantly, at times when I should be warm, times when I was warm just a second before. I notice it most when I'm in bed at night. The little bit of googling I did tells me that it's most likely my thyroid being out of whack. Cold flashes, like hot flashes, can be a symptom of menopause, but thyroid is more likely to be the culprit.
