Today is broken up into bits by Cordelia's obligations. She's got a soccer game at 1:30, a Science Olympiad practice at 3:30 and Girl Scouts at 4:30. I have to go to the soccer game and the Girl Scout meeting. The soccer game and the Science Olympiad practice both involve driving.

[livejournal.com profile] evalerie has told me about a Cadette troop Cordelia could join next year. It meets on the other side of town, but it includes girls from all over and meets in the evening. The last I knew, the local middle school also had a troop that met in the evening (at a local elementary school so that there was no risk the girls would be seen by other middle schoolers and teased). This means Cordelia can continue with Girl Scouts even if she stays at her current school (where there is not likely to be a Cadette troop unless I start one. Both leaders of the current troop have fourth graders, so they won't be moving up yet).

I'm thinking that tomorrow I should call the gastroenterologist to ask about a referral to the specific surgeon my SIL recommended or, at the very least, a referral to general surgery instead of to thoracic surgery. She may not agree. She was pretty definite about referring me to thoracic surgery, so I assume that's what she thinks is best. I just trust my SIL more.

I think I have tendinitis in my right thumb, in the area between the bottom joint and the wrist. Gripping things hurts. Hitting the space bar when I type hurts. I'm not sure what to do-- I'm supposed to avoid NSAIs due to my stomach problems, and resting the thumb is difficult. I'm right handed, and there are a lot of things I do that I can't do with just my left hand.

I've been trying to think what I've done recently that's unusual that would cause this. When I get tendinitis, it's usually an RSI problem, but I haven't done anything new or unusual.

Yesterday, after we went to the library, we stopped for bubble tea. Cordelia tried pudding flavor and liked it. Since she was experimenting with something new, I got watermelon flavor which we know she likes. I was prepared to swap with her if necessary. She liked the pudding flavor, however. I tasted it. It was sweet, almost like a butterscotch pudding.

Today, after Cordelia's soccer game, we stopped for bubble tea at TK Wu's again. I wanted to try mocha flavor, but they didn't have it and offered coffee instead. Cordelia had apple, and Scott had strawberry. Usually Scott doesn't have anything.

I slipped sideways and almost slid under the car while I was getting out by TK Wu's. It was really slick with a thick layer of new snow over the ice. I'm still damp from that. One the way back to the car, Cordelia slipped in the snow.

Cordelia's soccer game today was at a different middle school than usual. This middle school has two gyms. The upper one is quite nice. The lower gym, where today's game was, isn't nearly so nice. Access is by a side door that lets onto a narrow staircase that opens directly onto the floor of the gym. Seating for spectators is directly behind one of the goals and tends to be quite crowded. There's almost no room on the sidelines for the members of the teams who aren't playing.

Cordelia actually took a kick at the goal today. The goalie caught it, but at least she tried.

I'm not sure what the final score was. Scott says it doesn't matter, that the point of the game at this level is in whether or not the kids are managing passes and plays. There was one unfortunate time when the other team had a corner kick, and the ball bounced right off the goalie's foot into the goal. She was in tears when she came off the floor even though nobody gave her a hard time that I could see.

Well, I'd better get ready for Girl Scouts. Scott will stop by to get me after he picks Cordelia up from the library (Science Olympiad practice). We'll arrive late at the meeting, but I don't expect that to be a big deal. Scott has suggested that we call him when the meeting's over. That seems silly when it's less than a ten minute walk, but I might do it. We definitely have proof that footing is treacherous.
