There's officially a principal for the new program at Cordelia's school. She's got quite a bit of experience both as a principal (she's currently at another school in the district) and, before that, as a math teacher at the middle school level. She impressed me with her enthusiasm for the STEAM program. She was also honest about the fact that, during the first couple of years, all members of the staff are going to be learning what works. There's nobody who can teach them how to do this.

Both the new principal and the superintendent emphasized that they're starting from the ground up in terms of staffing. The whole thing is officially a pilot program which changes the union rules around hiring to staff the program, at least for the first three years. I don't know which of the current teachers will be applying to stay and which will be transferring elsewhere in the district. Well, I do know that the librarian wants to stay. I just don't know beyond that.

Most of the Usborne book fair is being run by a single woman. She gets there at about 8:00 and stays until after 4:00. She worked last night, too, though according to her they did less business than she expected given how many people were at the school. She won't be there tonight, but her husband will be. She showed me how to operate the sales computer this morning so that I'll know when I arrive tonight. She was really pleased to know that someone is going to be there. She was afraid that her husband would be alone. Tonight is likely to be the biggest period of sales for the entire book fair.

Cordelia was really pleased not to be going to see the social worker today. She told me that, every week, other kids demanded to know where she was going and that it was embarrassing. She never complained about that, but it must have loomed large in her mind.

Apparently the Disabilities Awareness Workshop is understaffed. The organizer plans to have several of us run two stations. I don't know how well that will work. The station I was already supposed to be running includes at least half a dozen different challenges. I'm not sure how I can do that and run a second station.

There are also apparently two fourth grade classes. I thought there was only one, but the organizer said there are two classes to go through the stations.

As last year, there will be pizza for the volunteers after the last of the kids have gone. Unfortunately, I can't eat it because of the tomato sauce. I'll have to decide then which is more important, getting home for lunch (I don't eat breakfast, so I may really want food by then) or helping pack things up.
