Yesterday, the kids really, really wanted frozen yogurt. When Scott declined to take them out for it, they said they'd walk there. We vetoed that on the grounds that it's too far. Then they wanted to walk to Wendy's (for frosties, I think) which is about a mile away and doesn't involve crossing any busy streets. We told them that our guests needed permission from their parents to go so far. We also felt it was too late in the afternoon for them to go and come back.

Instead, they went to the school and played for a while. Apparently, they took it into their heads to roll down the hill, and it made the eight year old sick. Cordelia ended up with a headache from it. I don't recall rolling down hills as being such a terrible thing. My sister and I used to do it a lot, and we never got sick or got headaches.

Cordelia took her phone with her to the playground and actually called me when she thought her friends were going to be way ahead of her in coming home. As it turned out, they all arrived together, but I was just as happy to know that she was coming.

If the weather cooperates (and forecasts say it should), we'll spend a while working on the raised beds today. Scott's going to dig out the dead plants and replace the dirt that we lost when the sewer replacement went through. I have to decide whether or not to try to salvage the sage plants. I think they're still alive, but I'm not sure. They spent the winter with very little dirt around their roots. Basically, the sewer line guys dug them up and then, when they were filling everything in, kind of dumped them on top of the raised bed. It was late enough in the year that I didn't make any effort to get new dirt around them.

It's too early in the year to put in any new plants. That will wait until May some time, and I'm going to have to plant my own this year. The last couple of years, I had help from Scott's mother and sister, but this year, the timing won't work. At least I pretty much know what I want.
