Aug. 9th, 2014 11:00 amWe did end up going to the pool. I had a little trouble navigating to get us there. I always get distracted and miss a turn or something. I'm too into actually having another adult to talk to.
We had four kids because Cordelia's neighborhood friends came along. Those two can't swim, so they couldn't go past where they could safely stand. Mostly, they stayed in the very shallow water (about 18 inches). The bottom of the pool was quite rough. My feet are kind of chewed up from walking on it.
Fuller Pool has a water slide. It's got four or five curves and lets out into a shallow trough. Most of us did the slide a couple of times, but Cordelia's male friend absolutely refused. His sister was reluctant but gave in when Cordelia and her cousin coaxed. She ended up doing the slide twice. They have a lifeguard at the top and at the bottom, and they only allow one person on the slide at a time.
Scott's sister brought grapes and muffins (gluten free zucchini muffins) that were a welcome treat during the fifteen minutes when kids weren't allowed in the pool. Every hour or two, there's a fifteen minute period when only adults are allowed in the pool. I'm not sure why. Scott's sister theorized that it was intended to give the lifeguards a break. That's as good an explanation as any.
We stayed about two hours. After we left, we took ten to fifteen minutes for the kids to play on the play structure in the park outside the pool. It's huge and is scaled to be comfortable for kids their size (unlike the structure on the school playground which is definitely intended for smaller kids).
I think the kids would have liked more time to play, but Scott's sister needed to get on the road. She was heading north on 23, and doing that on a Friday afternoon is challenging. She said traffic heading north was bumper to bumper when they came down at 1:00, and she was only expecting it to get worse. She planned to take back roads part of the way home just to avoid the highway.
We had pizza for dinner. Each of us had a small pizza to ourselves. Scott got a chicken teriyaki pizza and let me try a slice. I think it might be okay for me to eat. Normally, I get chicken and mushrooms and no sauce, but the teriyaki sauce is mild enough that it might be okay.
After dinner, Scott and the girls played a couple of games. After that, we went to Orange Leaf. It was pretty crowded, but we didn't have to wait long, and we found a table where we could sit and eat.
When we got home, we watched the Phineas and Ferb Marvel crossover which our niece hadn't previously seen. She wasn't against watching it, but she also wasn't hugely enthusiastic about it.
Scott's at work right now. The rest of us got up about ten. Cordelia had her usual bagel. I made our niece a scrambled egg. The girls are hanging out in the dining room. I'm not sure what they're up to, but they don't seem to be bored or anything. I'm afraid I have nothing planned for today, so they'll have to entertain themselves.
