Aug. 24th, 2014 10:40 amWe went to the block party yesterday. We almost didn't because Cordelia suddenly decided that she didn't want to go. As it turned out, she didn't want to go unless she was sure her friends were already there. She spent an hour popping in and out of the front door to see if they were walking by. Eventually, she saw them going and announced to us that she'd changed her mind again and did want to go.
We stayed maybe forty-five minutes and didn't talk to very many people. Mostly we talked to Cordelia's friends' parents. Their lease ends in May, and the owner is selling the house, so they're going to have to move. That means that, next summer, Cordelia probably won't have anyone to play with. The odds are very much against them finding a place to rent that's anywhere near here. The father is even talking about moving out of Ann Arbor. The mother is against that because she works in town and because the schools tend to be better here than anywhere within reasonable commuting distance.
I found enough to eat, more or less. We were late enough that there wasn't a lot of food left, and it was mostly pasta and salads. Scott only ate a piece of cornbread, and Cordelia settled for a piece of sweet corn. That meant that they were searching for food when we got home. There weren't as many dishes at the potluck as usual and only two desserts. Usually, there's a lot more.
