Nov. 2nd, 2014 10:20 amAround three yesterday afternoon, I lay down for a nap. I'd been fighting a mild headache all day, and it had worn me out in spite of not being very much of a headache. (I did finally take naproxen for it. I'd been thinking that it wasn't bad enough to merit medication, but finally, I gave in and took something.) The headache is menstrual, I'm sure, which means I'll have it for a couple of days no matter what I do (I have a worse headache this morning and have already taken naproxen. I'll take Amerge later if the naproxen doesn't kill it).
Scott went out about 3:30, braving football traffic, to play some Ingress.
booniverse wanted to help him level up a bit. He hasn't really had much opportunity to play because he can't generally devote more than about fifteen minutes at a time to it. He's been catching portals that we happen to be near, but he's low enough level that he can't do much with them.
In the evening, at about 8:00, Scott and Cordelia went out in search of a birthday present for Scott's sister. Her birthday was last week, but Scott's parents were out of town, so the family celebration is today. Scott was hoping that 8:00 was late enough for football traffic to have eased (the game probably ended about 6:30). I think he got his sister a DSW gift certificate because he called me to ask about boots for Cordelia. He had no idea what she needed or what the likely price range should be. I specified relatively high, waterproof boots that are quick to put on and take off. She's going to be wading through snow twice a day as she goes around the school going to and from the back entrance. I did a little online checking and concluded that women's boots tended to start, price wise, at about $60. Hopefully, she can wear these for more than one year. Scott got them half a size big in hopes of adding to their lifespan.
Prior to the shopping trip, Cordelia had been saying that she'd just wear my boots because I don't generally need them. I objected to that. I need boots about twice a week all winter long, and I'd really rather not have to shop for new boots for myself. The pair I've got are lace ups and resemble hiking boots rather a lot. (I don't think Cordelia had thought through the time involved in putting those boots on and taking them off, either.) I do need to oil them, though; the leather is getting stiff. Now I just have to get some appropriate oil.
We've pretty much decided to drop our cable. We're buying a cheap, refurbished iPad that we can use to stream stuff from Hulu and the like to our TV (right now, we stream from Scott's laptop, but that means he can't use his laptop while we're watching stuff). I also ordered a set of Body Electric DVDs because we won't be able to get WCMU any more. I'm a little worried that not having a set time when I must do the program will mean that I don't end up doing it. I know myself, and I can see it being a problem. Cordelia says it won't be a big deal not to get Disney Channel any longer. We will regret losing all of the programs we've saved on our DVR-- We've got all of Phineas and Ferb and most of Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman. Netflix does currently have Phineas and Ferb and two of the five seasons of Fetch! but it's not the same.
