Scott's Babylon 5 group met last night. We're still not back to playing Babylon 5; I think Scott's still feeling burned out. Also, it's been long enough since we played (April or May) that none of us really remember what was going on in the game. Instead of role playing, we played Sentinels of the Multiverse. We played against a group of villains; I'm not sure what the group was called. We alternated with a villain followed by a hero followed by a villain. Scott played a superhero team. None of them had very many hit points, and he could still only use one power a turn. We came very close to dying-- one player character had two hit points left at the end-- but we managed to pull it off.

Cordelia had volleyball practice last night. Originally, the coach had cancelled it because she was sick, but another mother offered to run the practice (she coached a team last year, so she knew what to do). There were only six girls at the practice. Two girls were sick. One was out of town. The other one just didn't bother to show up (it was her mother running the practice, and she was a little peeved).

The front door to the school was locked when we arrived. Cordelia went around the building and got in through the cafeteria (where aftercare meets. At six, they're still doing pick up), but by the time she did, those of us still out front had gotten the attention of someone inside. I suspect he was a janitor; at any rate, he had a key. I'm a little annoyed with him because he listened to me talk to the mother running the practice, saying that I'd stay to let people in, and he sat there and watched me do it. Turns out, he had unlocked the stupid door when he let us in. If he'd told me that, I wouldn't have been stuck there for so long.

I did my three hours in the school library this morning. I did my usual tasks, checking books in and out and shelving. Once that was done, the librarian had me separate fliers for the Scholastic book fair that's coming up in early December. I had to count out the right number for each class, label the stack with the teacher's name, and paperclip the stack together. After I did that, she had me write names on the backs of those sticks we've been putting together with each kid's barcode and such. She thought it would be easier to find a given person's stick if their name was on both sides. The first sharpie she gave me didn't work, but the second one did. I got through an entire kindergarten class, and I think I spelled everybody's names correctly. I certainly tried very hard to.

I wrote about three sentences toward my Yuletide story yesterday. I don't know if they'll end up in the final draft, but they're a starting point, and they're more than I had before. I still don't have a plot, however. I'm hoping that the characters will suggest one if I write a bit. That often works for me. I probably won't do any further writing today because I'm expecting the cleaning lady in an hour or two (when she arrives varies). There are things I need to do before she comes.

I am wondering if I should throw in the towel on a bunch of library books (almost all graphic novels) I've had for almost eight weeks. I haven't opened any of them (well, that's not quite true-- One has print so small I can't read it. That one has to go back unread. I'll get it again later when I've got reading glasses), and I've already renewed them once. None of them have holds on them, so I could renew them again. I just don't know if I should. I don't know if more time will make me read them, and someone else might find them on the shelf and want to read them. One shouldn't hold onto library books for too long.
