It's the last day of school today. In about an hour and a half, Cordelia and a couple of friends will be here with me. I'm probably going to feed them mac 'n' cheese for lunch because I'm not sure we've got anything else.

Cordelia's a little sorry that I invited these kids over because another friend is apparently having some sort of party this afternoon. Cordelia doesn't know when or where, and I haven't heard anything from the other girl's parents, so who knows? Cordelia mainly wants to go because this friend is about to move to California and this might be Cordelia's last chance to spend time with her.

I have asked Cordelia to find out what the friend who lives a few blocks away will be doing this summer. Getting to this friend's house requires crossing a busy street, but Cordelia is twelve. She can handle that. She just hasn't done it before. I'm not entirely optimistic that the friend will be available much, however. She lives with just her mother, and her mother, of course, works all day. These kids are on the border of being able to be home alone all day, but they're still young enough that, if someone wanted to, they could make trouble about parents not looking after their children properly.

Yesterday, after school, was the Cross Country Kids 5K run. Cordelia didn't run. Instead, she and her best friend volunteered to run a water station. Cordelia tells me that they ran out of water midway through, and she had to carry the empty container up the hill to the school to get it refilled. Fortunately, one of the adult volunteers carried the full container down for her.

Scott looked at my remix story, and he thinks it's done. I don't know though. He's not always the best judge of that, so I'm still dithering. I don't actually want to write what comes next, so it will take a fair amount of effort to do it. If I'm going to, I should start now. I probably will work on it this afternoon if the kids give me some space to.

Scott's brother's birthday is tomorrow, and he's been refusing to suggest anything that he might like. Most of the family is kind of annoyed with him about that. Of course, I'm not sure Scott's parents have much room to object-- Scott's father's birthday wishlist had one $20 item on it (for three kids all looking for ideas), and Scott's mother's had two.
