Sep. 26th, 2015 10:15 amWearing a bra definitely makes a difference in my pain levels. I wish it didn't because they're uncomfortable. I worry a bit that I'm still going to be in pain when I start radiation. I don't know if that will make a difference or make things harder. Right now, with the bra and the naproxen, I'm in about as much pain as I was with the hydrocodone a couple of days after the surgery. Well, my underarm hurts less, now. The hydrocodone never did anything to affect the discomfort there.
I slept wrong last night, somehow, but I can't think how. My right shoulder hurts quite a bit, but I'm fairly certain that I didn't spend my time lying on that side. I had some hints of reflux trouble last night, and lying on my right side, though better for my breast, is much worse for reflux. I think that the reflux was because I had some mint gum an hour before bed. That seems horribly trivial, but I can't think of anything else that could have been responsible.
We managed to finish the last of the library DVDs last night. I have twice as many DVDs coming from the library this week, but only one of them is something that Scott's actively interested in. He'll watch the others if I happen to put them in while he's around, but if I watch them during the day, while he's at work, he won't care. I'm thinking to focus on Netflix DVDs in the evenings if we have time.
I baked a cake yesterday, and Cordelia frosted it when she got home. She put the frosting on more thinly than I would because she was afraid she wouldn't have enough to cover the whole thing. Next time, she'll have a better idea of how much she can use.
I've been trying the various tinned instant coffees that Kroger still carries. Judging by the shelves, they now only carry four kinds, all Maxwell House. I'm surprised by that because they seemed to sell pretty well. Also, none of the four remaining kinds are sugar free, and I'd think there'd be demand for that. The four kinds are caramel latte (30 mg of caffeine per cup), French vanilla (40 mg), hazelnut (70 mg), and cafe francais (80 mg). I think the hazelnut is the best balance for me in terms of flavor and caffeine. The caramel latte tastes great (I'm sure it contains a ton of sugar) and actually foams (I'm not sure what they put in to make it do that; I'm a bit afraid to look). The French vanilla has almost no flavor whatsoever. It's not even bad. The cafe francais tastes like it needs more sugar. I suspect I could get used to it, though.
My sister's mother suggested to me that I could use a baking soda paste in place of deodorant right now. I am using deodorant as I normally would on the right side, but I've been leaving the left alone, and Cordelia doesn't want to be near me if I raise that arm. I'm pretty sure I'm still not supposed to use deodorant on that side, and I know I won't be able to during radiation. I need to check with the doctor to make sure baking soda paste is okay-- My understanding is that there are two issues. The first is if it will cause problems with the actual treatment or equipment. The second is whether or not my skin will be able to tolerate it. If there's no problem with the second, I can use the stuff and just wash before each radiation appointment.
I got the sheets down the basement stairs yesterday by dragging the basket to the top of the stairs and then kicking it down. Everything staying inside, but I still haven't ventured down to put the sheets in the wash. I will probably do that today.
