We spent several hours with Scott’s family yesterday to celebrate the four May birthdays. I was exhausted, so I wasn’t quite all there. We bought lunch at Wendy’s before heading up there, and that helped for a couple of hours, but the problem was insufficient sleep rather than insufficient food, and food only helps so much in the face of poor sleep. Mainly, I kept myself awake by reading DW and LJ on my cell phone.

I’m more awake today but still kind of dragging. I’m hoping I can get myself to fully wake up so that I can write. I’ve been wanting to write for weeks now and simply haven’t been able to.

I placed orders for Scott’s Father’s Day presents on Saturday. I’m getting one thing from Amazon, a game that Cordelia said was good for her to give him, and four books from Bookbound. I hung up from talking to Bookbound about ten seconds before Scott got back from grocery shopping, so I cut it kind of close. They couldn’t get my first choices of books, however. Well, they might have been able to, but their distributor didn’t have copies in stock, and there’s no way to know how long the distributor would take to get copies.

Scott and I did some Ingress stuff after we got back from his parents’ place yesterday (I also captured a few portals in Fenton as we drove by them). I managed to reach seventh level toward the end of our time out. It’s a very, very long way to eighth level, so we’re going to focus on getting Scott to ninth level first because he’s closer.

We need to figure out a better way to deal with the science center portals because four of them are in places where there are going to be vast numbers of mosquitoes very, very soon (there’s a largish pond in the woods). The best time for us to go over there tends to be after dinner, around 7:30 or even 8:00, and that’s prime mosquito time. It’s generally too hot earlier in the day for me to get there and then back home again (I can climb one steep hill at this point, but I don’t think I can manage two within that short a time, and there’s really nowhere I can sit and recover. There are benches, but they’re all in full sun). I just don’t think that I’m willing to spray myself with insect repellent for ten minutes worth of walking in the woods.

I need to email Scott’s sister to ask if we can exchange the shirt she gave me. It’s very pretty, and it more or less fits, but it’s a scoop neck and reveals about an inch of my bra and both straps. This time last year, I pretty much never wore bras, so it wouldn’t have been an issue, but I’m going to be wearing this particular style of bra for at least another six months and possibly longer than that. I pretty much can’t wear a scoop neck shirt with these bras. Part of the problem may be that this is a 2X which means it fits in the hips but is large at the top.

I also got an Archie Fisher CD, a nightgown, and a carved wooden flower. Cordelia got five or six books and a Detroit Tiger’s t-shirt. We went in with Scott’s sister’s family to give Scott’s parents a gift card for their upcoming cruise.

As it turns out, Scott’s parents coming to Cordelia’s orchestra concert on Thursday is complicated by a scheduling conflict. One or the other of her cousins has a concert or some such at the exact same time. Right now, Scott’s parents are planning to have one of them go to that and one of them continue down our way to attend Cordelia’s concert. My parents and I discussed them coming, but it’s a two to two and a half hour drive each way from Lawton, and they’d have to either drive back after dark or get a hotel room. It doesn’t seem worthwhile for a twenty minute concert.

I’ve been listening to some audiobooks the last couple of days. I’m not sure I’m entirely processing what I hear, however, so I’m not sure if I should keep going. I’ve got four more audiobooks on my laptop that I’d like to finish and delete, however. I finished Smek for President! last night, and I’m listening to the Welcome to Night Vale novel right now. I have two Rick Riordan books and a Wodehouse book yet to listen to. I also have a couple of dozen books I want to read, not all of them library books, and an equal number of DVDs to watch. I could fill my time completely for the next few weeks without acquiring anything new.

I’m dithering. I’ve got twenty days to finish this WIP Big Bang story, and I can’t seem to write at all. I know that eating certain types of junk food will jumpstart my brain and let me write, but it’s terribly bad for me. It would just be so easy to have Scott pick up a bag of Cheetos and/or some cookies and/or some jellybeans. He’ll do it if I ask, but he won’t make the decision for me, and I really don’t want to make the decision.

It’s very easy to say that this is just once, but I’d really like to find a better way to work than playing stupid tricks with my blood sugar. Maybe if I can get a solid night of sleep tonight? Eating junk is a tactic I’ve employed successfully pretty often in the past when I was having trouble getting my brain to focus enough to write. I remember needing to chew sugary gum when I spent hours at the computer labs in college. Food wasn’t allowed, but gum was, and I went through a lot of it. At any rate, it goes that far back.

On the plus side, I had a little bit of fruit yesterday (about three slices of cooked peach), and I’m doing okay. I’ll try some more fruit later today, probably applesauce since that’s what we’ve got.
