Sep. 26th, 2018 02:05 pmI felt better yesterday than I had in weeks. It was kind of amazing. I got headachy during the last hour before bed, and I'm groggy this morning, but yesterday was very nice. There was a certain amount of me going, "Oh, so this is what I'm supposed to feel like," and wondering how to get back there again.
Today is a half day for the schools. Well, not actually a half-day as they only let the kids go two hours early. The normal school day runs about seven hours, so two hours is considerably less than half the day. It's just long enough to really annoy all of the teachers.
Cordelia's friends from middle school came over here after school to hang out together. That means me stuck in our bedroom for a lot of the afternoon.
I have to decide whether or not it's worthwhile to go to 'capsule night' which, as far as I can tell, will be a series of speeches about changes to the curriculum and what they're doing to bring test scores up. It starts at 6:00 which means, in theory, that Scott should be home to drive over, but that's not something I'd want to count on, but the alternative (if I go at all) is for me to leave here 4:30 or earlier.
The only bus to the school also serves a commuter lot, so it's going to be packed any time between 4:00 and 6:00. There are some Ingress portal dense spots along that bus route, so I could go that far and then walk a bit and catch a later bus for the last part of the trip (there's no safe way to get there on foot and nothing on that side of the highway except for houses in neighborhoods that lack sidewalks).
Part of the idea of capsule night is for parents to follow their child's schedule, switching classrooms at certain intervals and having each teacher give a speech about their teaching style and what they want the kids to learn. There are ways in which going might be useful, but it would mean a lot of stairs. As far as I've been able to determine, the school effectively has one elevator (there's one from the front entrance to the second floor and one from the second floor up to the fifth floor, but as they don't go continuously, I'd call them just one taken together), and that's small with room for maybe three people standing and a chair/scooter.
There must be some sort of freight elevator somewhere, though. I can't imagine that they brought in all the furniture and fixtures via the stairs. I just wonder if kids who have to use the elevator get extra passing time between classes or just have a lot of tardies with the detentions that come with those.
My doctor and I talked yesterday. She really wants me to see the genealogy people before I have any sort of cardiology appointment. She's of the opinion that the only things I'll get are a prescription for a statin and advice to lose weight. She says there's a test I can get done that might be helpful but that I'd almost certainly have to pay for out of pocket.
I asked her for a referral for a hearing test because it's been getting harder for me to follow dialogue on the TV without captioning. I've always had some problems in that direction, but it's gotten noticeably worse. My doctor said she'd put that in right away.
