Despicable Me 2 - We had a lot of fun with this one. Scott rated it as not quite as good as the first one, but I had more fun with this one because, in the first one, I cringed more than a little at how Gru started out treating the three girls.
Free Willy - Cordelia got this from Netflix. I thought I'd seen it before, but, looking at blurbs, I think I actually saw Free Willy 3. It was years ago anyway. At any rate, nothing in this movie was familiar. I had a hard time watching. The movie makes a strong case against keeping orcas in captivity. I found the kid's pain over his own situation believable and hard to watch.
Hunter x Hunter episodes 6-10 - I watched this because it was here (from Netflix) more than because I cared about it. I almost didn't bother to complete the DVD. I simply didn't care about the characters and their goals and wasn't having fun watching them meet challenges. I liked the manga better (and I gave up on that eventually).
The Losers - I got this one from the library on
hopeofdawn's recommendation. For various reasons, I ended up watching it with the captioning on and the sound off. It took me a while to learn the character names. I'm still not sure I have them down. The action sequences were well executed. The ending wasn't fully satisfying. I assume it was that way to leave room for sequels.
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries season 1 DVD 3-4 - I thought the resolution of the Foyle plotline was unnecessarily melodramatic. But then, I felt the whole Foyle plotline was unnecessary. I don't think it added anything to the show. I did find it interesting to see what bits of the novels made it to the show and what bits didn't. I shall certainly watch season 2 whenever Netflix gets it.
Monsters University - I liked this one better than I expected to. I wasn't sure how the movie was going to address the fact that, much as he wanted to be a scarer and hard as he was willing to work, Mike wasn't going to be a scarer. Scott saw parallels to Revenge of the Nerds, and those were certainly present. The whole thing managed to be funny and touching.
Pacific Rim - Scott commented that, while he enjoyed "Pacific Rim 2," he really wishes they'd made "Pacific Rim 1." I can see what he means. The movie felt like it came after a lot of interesting events that would also have made good movies. We sort of came in at the very end. We did enjoy the movie.
