I know somebody who says it's just as well he has no access to a superpower like the ability to heal, because he doesn't think he could be trusted with it. He's afraid he would eventually turn into a supervillian with minions who would do ANYTHING for him. ("You, there, with the horribly painful chronic disease--what will you do for me if I make it stop hurting?")
He still wants it. I suspect everybody does. Everybody loves somebody who's sick.
