I know, right? Their landlord is selling their house, and they can't afford to buy it. They aren't likely to find anything in their price range in the immediate neighborhood. The other two kids near Cordelia's age within a couple of blocks are boys she doesn't get along with. (She used to play with them. Then one day, she stopped and refused to have anything further to do with them even when they came by asking if she could play.)
I'm going to encourage her to get phone numbers for the girls relatively nearby. They're too far away for her to simply wander over to see if they want to play, but they're near enough that she can walk or bike over there if she knows they're home and able to play. I don't know if their parents will let them come as far as our house. I'd be happy to host and even to provide lunch.
