The metanewsmods reading list on LJ consists of 8 individuals and 21 communities (the profile says 22 communities, but one of those is metanews itself. There used to be about 70 communities before I weeded). Almost all the communities are newsletters.
When the reading list was bigger it generally took me an hour to an hour and a half to get through a week of posts, including checking out all of the possibly useful stuff and writing up what was worth linking. The stuff I cut will mean some time saved, but scrolling by those posts wasn't the primary thing that took time.
