I'm assuming, though, that if something were built there, there would be months, maybe even a couple of years, when we couldn't use the underground lot and so couldn't use the downtown library. We don't tend to browse, so the not so great selection at Traverwood isn't a huge issue, but I much, much prefer going downtown. That feels more like a library to me, and we usually stop for bubble tea because we're nearby. If we go to Traverwood, getting bubble tea is a long way out of our way (we actually pass home on the way).

I have an e-reader, but I haven't ever gotten really comfortable with it. I've loaded it up with fanfic and Project Gutenberg books, but I don't pick it up very often. If I'm taking the bus, I don't like to carry anything but my purse, and the e-reader won't fit in there (nor will even the slimmest paperback). I think it's an anxiety issue; I just can't deal with the bus if I don't have both hands free. I was taking a cab for both appointments this week, so taking a book was an option.

I've been trying to avoid buying books at all during the last several years. I've been limiting myself to things I'm absolutely and without a doubt sure that I want to own and to things for Cordelia. For anything else, if the library has it, I'll try it. If the library doesn't have it and it looks extremely interesting, I'll do a MEL loan or, if it's very recent, ask the library to buy it. Otherwise, I just shrug and forget about that particular book. I've got lists of several hundred books that the library owns that I want to try and a list of one or two hundred more that the library doesn't own but that might be worth a MEL loan.

I've only bought a handful of e-books, and they were all things available only as e-books that were by auto-buy authors or by people I know.
