Okay, I have NO idea if this will actually work on the PDF thing, but I figure 2 minutes to try unsolicited advice is better than a freaking cab ride if it works >_>
Try finding the PDF on your desktop and selecting Get Info from the File tab. If there is a checkbox up top in the 'general' block of text that is checked that says "locked", clearing it should work. If not, I have no further ideas, sadly.
