There's probably some obscure standardized testing requirement it meets honestly.
I mean, a lot of social studies is about understanding statistics and current events and stuff? So idk. I'm guessing something like that.
(I helped develop a website to help teachers of high school government classes, and we had to go through standardized testing protocols line by line and make sure we'd gotten everything.)
