I think it's harder when new canon josses something that's not done than something that is. That said, I'd definitely read a WISH fic, canon compliant or not.
I think that I was hoping for something darker with Captive Prince. At least, that's my best theory. Sometimes, I just don't like something that, as far as I can tell, has all of the things that I usually enjoy, and I'm never sure if it's the thing or me that's wrong. So many people were gushing over the book that I thought I'd try it.
