Public transit is a really great thing to have, but it's never quite as convenient as it could be. In our town, the bus routes are like spokes going out from the transit center and then coming back again. The routes do intersect with each other in places. Also, some routes go into the next town over to their transit center before heading back.
The whole thing makes getting back and forth possible, but it's not easy.
