Jul. 7th, 2009 01:08 pmCordelia and I had a late lunch yesterday at Applebee's with my father and the younger of my two sisters. 'Late' means 'almost three o'clock.' I was starving by the time we sat down. I think my sister was hungrier. She'd just gotten off a flight from Albuquerque.
I had the reaction so common to adults who haven't seen a young person in a long time. My sister's nineteen. The last time I saw her, she was fourteen or fifteen. The time before that.... I haven't seen her frequently, so some part of my head still thinks she's a child. (I have the same problem with my brother, and he'll be thirty-one this fall.) I calculate my sister's age by remembering that she was three when she served as flower girl at our wedding.
It was a short visit. They needed to get back on the road to miss at least some of rush hour and to make sure all their driving was during daylight.
My sister took some pictures which she promises to share. We exchanged e-mail addresses, and I pointed her to my LJ with the request that she not share it with my father.
